Nottingham City Council hosted a Holocaust Memorial Evening today (26th January 2024) in the ballroom of the Council House.
City council leaders and representatives of faith communities spoke to the national theme for this year’s events, The Fragility of Freedom, highlighting the importance of remembering and learning from the past, the importance of not staying silent in the face of discrimination and injustice and sharing concern for parts of the world where communities are in conflict and people are suffering.
Those gathered shared a minutes silence for those killed in the the Holocaust and other genocides.
The Council House will be illuminated in purple as an act of remembrance on 27th January, which is Holocaust Memorial Day.
